Not the typical scene you’d expect of Nelson,
but there again…..we are here to surprise.
Not the typical scene you’d expect of Nelson,
but there again…..we are here to surprise.
End of a normal week for some….not for The Nelsonian though..…but thats another story
Something I look forward to on Sat afternoons is I get to sit down and read The Press.
So it was nice to see a bit of patriotism this week in such a simple format as the plastic wrap [waterproof stuff] of the usual morning delivery.
Well you could hardly be surprised that….
…..I’m asking this sort of question given….
…..what I’ve seen around our fair town lately.
Considering the fact that these motor cars are practically 50 year old……
…..its really an eye opener that our small city has so many….
….and not just the plain ole sedan either,
…..we’ve got panel vans ….
….and convertibles.
With the current spate of unusually bad weather, Tasman Bay has some new temporary occupants, oil industry tugs and support vessels.
Although the drillship Noble Discover is about 35km’s away from where this photo was taken,
courtesy of its size, you can still comfortably see it across the other side of the bay.
They’re all there to basically “ride out the storm.”
The Nelson Mail also reported on the situation last Friday.
…….does bring back memories though. Pretty much looks like the original number plate too.
Although I snapped this photo nearly two years ago….
…..its about to be repeated (Tuesday 6th September 2011 actually) again when the Rugby World Cup 2011 show hits town. In fact this meal back in 2009 was sort of a “rehearsal.”
The main street of Nelson, Trafalgar Street, was closed for some blocks down from the church steps, folks were invited to dress accordingly in their favourite Italian colours, and buy a ticket for lunch.
The Nelson Long Lunch has even already got its own Facebook page here.
I’m sure they’re out there somewhere.
In the realm of miniaturization though…check out the difference a year can make.
Between the 2008 version top and the late 2009 adornments, above, on the roof of EFR388, (however I suspect one of these might have had something to do with their WiFi identification system) ……………but I must say here and now
it is very frustrating that the Google Street View Team haven’t finished Stoke, especially after all guys it was voted in 2010 the number one suburb in New Zealand to live. There’s at least 40% of the suburb not covered by the cameras…..and its been like that for nearly 3 years now!
Surely is. Its a feature at the entry to
Founders Heritage Park on the northern side of Nelson. Its a great insight into the architecture of “olden days.”
Earlier this week we had a frosty start and as it so happened
I was about to enter a building while the local milko was delivering.
My comment to her was “Bit fresh this morning”….
……her reply “Always!”
